like other books in this same genre. Rather, the focus is on the human side

intrusive.

About the Author: Greg Poulton lives in Reading, England. An established scientist
he has published widely in his chosen field. A lover of science fiction since
childhood, Cassie's Eye is his first full-length novel.

Excerpt from the book: "The girl looked at her wide-eyed. Cassie pulled a needle
blade from her utility belt and sliced through the manacle bolts. Then she removed
the tape. The girl rushed into her arms and hugged her tightly, sobbing. She was not
prepared for it, the sudden cold of the cheek against hers. Instinctively, Cassie
wrapped her arms around the girl and cradled her with a soft embrace. The hot smell
of fresh urine wrinkled her nose. Damn you, Jinny, she said to herself, damn you for
making me feel this way. Reaching up, she squeezed a small tear from her own coffee
brown eyes.
Static played in her ear. She pressed the earpiece in more securely.
'What's happening down there?' Jinny said in an urgent hoarse whisper.
'She's scared, okay? Give us a minute.'
'Okay, but hurry up.'
Cassie led the girl along the short slope to the front of the barrow and lifted her
up through the narrow gap. A moment later they were outside, the girl gripping her
hand tightly.
'Rigel!' Jinny exclaimed.
'What?'
'Your helmet, stupid, you've blown your cover.'
'Jinny, you're so full of crap. She's a little girl is all.'
'Yes, but.'
'Look, it was necessary, okay? Now shut up!'
They went down the small rise together and past the pod. The girl looked inside.
Pulling back, she started to scream. The shrill staccato shrieks echoed up into the
night and across the clearing. Jinny grabbed her and stimmed her in the neck. She
went limp, sagging into Cassie's arms."
